this is how you reinvent yourself

For most people, it takes going to absolute rock bottom to ever really wake up and decide they want to change their life.

It takes a massive health crisis, a breakup or financial catastrophe to finally get it together and change for good..

Now, I cant change your life for you or solve the problems that lie ahead of you, but maybe I can offer some insights and lessons I've learned along my journey that can help flip a switch inside of you and reinvent yourself.

There's a good chance if your reading this, you probably feel like your running in circles and find yourself repeatedly facing the same obstacles again and again and again and its because you've' failed to change one small thing.

The good news is the solution is quit simple.

Now before I get into the specifics of what we are about to talk about. The first thing I want you to understand is you need to get rid of everything and anything that is an anchor on your boat.

You don't need to start a new business, you don't need to move across the country and you don't need to change anything outside of your own mind.

Most people think in order to change their life and reinvent , they need to add a bunch of things onto what they are already doing when in fact, they just need to eliminate most of the bullshit that's in their life.

The reason why you aren't excelling at work is because your on your phone half the day scrolling on social media.

The reason why you cant hit the gym in the morning before work is because you stayed up until midnight playing video games the night before.

The reason why you cant stick to a clean diet is because your eating processed foods that make you crave more unhealthy toxic food.

The reason why woman aren't attracted to you is because you've sucked all of the magnetism out of your personality from watching porn.

I think you get the point.

It all starts with a process of elimination.

Get rid of the habits, people and vices that aren't serving you.

That will have to be the very first thing you do before anything else.

Now that we got that out of the way, what we are going to talk about here today is the science of reinventing yourself.

When I graduated high school I was 6 foot 2 and around160 pounds.

My senior year of football I sat the bench nearly the whole year.

I was skinny, weak, lazy and had a shit work ethic.

I grew up idolizing fictional characters like Rocky Balboa, John Wick, Bruce Wayne & Neo from The Matrix.

I wanted to be a Superhero. I wanted to look like a Greek God. I wanted to do cool shit and live an incredible life.

To grow up with these characters in your mind of what life could be like one day, to graduating high school, cleaning tables at the Cheesecake Factory, weighing 160 pounds and having no real mission or purpose, that was a hard pill to swallow for me.

Now the point I am getting at is I always had this image in my head of becoming a super hero like man.

What happened over time though is that vision slowly but surely got fizzled down to the point where not only did I not see a Superhero in the mirror, I saw the opposite.

I saw a young, weak, powerless and ignorant kid.

The perception I had of myself went from 100 to 0.

My self image was that of someone who wasn't worthy of the life that I deep down inside wanted for myself.

And so what happened in return? Nothing.

I spent the next year or so of my life drinking in my dorm room, playing Fortnite.

I half assed everything. I was living out a life of mediocrity and complacency.

It wasn't until I discovered the concept of The Self Fulfilling Prophecy, otherwise known as The Pygmalion Affect.

"If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be." Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:

The concept of The Self Fulfilling Prophecy stems from a Greek myth about Pygmalion, a gifted sculptor who carved a statue of a woman. Over time he became so in love with his masterpiece that he decided to go as far as to name the woman Galatea.

Pygmalion treated the statue as if she were real, speaking to her and lavishing her with love and affection. Moved by his devotion, the goddess Aphrodite brought the statue to life, transforming his belief and love into reality.

"You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct, and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be." Napoleon Hill.

In psychology and social dynamics, the Pygmalion Effect demonstrates how our beliefs about others can influence their behavior and outcomes. When someone has high expectations of another person—whether a student, employee, or team member—it can positively impact the person’s performance because they internalize and act upon those expectations.

The story of Pygmalion is also a representation of the concept behind reinventing yourself and reshaping your self-concept. At its core, the tale demonstrates the transformative power of belief, focus, and expectations — principles that are fundamental to self-reinvention.

Just as the Gods reinforced Pygmalion's expectations of the statue he created, the Gods, or Universe or higher power will also reinforce your expectations of the vision you create. Hence, this is why the story is also referred to as the self fulfilling prophecy.

Now the point isn't to become a Super hero. Its not to drive exotic cars or become a billionaire.

The point is that the one simple key that is going to help you create a new vision and reinvent into the person you most deeply desire to be is the expectations and vision you hold of yourself, you self concept.

Your self concept is the overall perception and understanding a person has of themselves. It is the collection of beliefs, thoughts, and feelings about "who I am"

If you want to change your situation, you first need to change your self concept.

This isn't something that can happen overnight. This takes time and it takes repetition. It takes you intentionally reminding yourself of who you truly believe you are, not what other people think you are.

This was exactly what the sculpture Pygmalion did to bring the statue to life, his belief, desire and expectations within him for the statue were so deep and engrained in him the Gods brought the statue to life.

When you have a vision of your highest self, the greatest and most powerful version of yourself, and when you back it with belief and purpose and expect on a daily basis, the Universe will certainly bend reality to your will.

Look at all of the great humans in the past. Think of all the inventions that have been created. Ideas and religions that have been formed.

Certainly there is more to this life than what meets the eye.

I personally believe that once you master this, once you completely and utterly believe you are who you say your are, you can than and only then make your life what you want it to be.

"You cannot outperform your self-concept. If you want to change the world around you, start with the world within you." Zig Ziglar

Now that you understand the big ideas behind the Self Fulfilling Prophecy & Self Concept, I want to get in to the tactical ways to go about this. We already talked about the first step, which was to remove all of the anchors on your boat.

Now this is very difficult to do all at once. Your going to fail repeatedly in fact.

For me, the simple habit of waking up early every day took me years to get control of. The same is true for every habit. It may not take years , but it will take time.

The second step towards reinventing yourself is having things to run toward, not from.

This is where you simply need to pick 3-5 productive tasks to stick with daily.

Don't make it complicated. Just make sure at least one of them is physical, one mental and one spiritual.

Here are a few suggestions, running, lifting, martial arts, meditation, journaling, long walks, reading books, etc etc.

Instead of staying up late and playing videogames or watching porn, get up early and hit the gym.

Instead of eating McDonald's after work, go to the grocery store Sunday night and meal prep food for your work week ahead.

Instead of scrolling social media for 3 hours a day, pickup a book and start reading about finance, sales, business, leadership, marketing & science.

These new habits are the engines in your ship. They are what keep you moving forward.

The third step in the process is to reframe what you are doing, with an added purpose behind them.

This is essentially where you will be crafting a vision and a purpose for yourself.

Just going to the gym turns into training to become a soldier, prepared to fight any battle that lies ahead of you.

Just getting up early turns into a staple in your mindset and core beliefs about yourself, the leader is always up first. Therefore I am a leader.

Just eating your meal prep turns into feeding your temple to sustain long treacherous journeys. Without a properly maintained temple, the foundation might not be strong enough to withstand the storms.

And just reading a book, turns into gaining an understanding to the universal landscape of reality, where all things must be considered, and a recognition that without sufficient knowledge, your ability to survive in the jungle is unlikely.

If you can get in the habit of framing why you are doing the things you are doing, it makes doing them that much easier.

There is an old story of a traveler who came across three bricklayers working under the hot sun. Curious about their work, the traveler approached the first bricklayer and asked, “What are you doing?”

The first bricklayer barely looked up and replied with a grunt, “I’m laying bricks, one after another. It’s hard, boring work, but someone has to do it.”

The traveler moved on and asked the second bricklayer the same question, “What are you doing?”

The second bricklayer paused, wiped the sweat from his brow, and said with a bit more energy, “I’m building a wall. It’s tiring work, but I’m good at it, and it pays the bills.”

Finally, the traveler came to the third bricklayer and repeated the question, “What are you doing?”

The third bricklayer stood tall, his eyes shining with pride and excitement. He smiled and said, “I’m building a magnificent cathedral! Each brick I lay is part of something much greater than myself. This cathedral will stand for generations, a place where people will find inspiration and peace.”

The story of the traveler and the bricklayers shows the power of perspective and meaning in shaping our approach to simple tasks. It’s a metaphor for reinventing yourself by reframing your productive habits—transforming mundane actions into the building blocks to a greater vision of your life.

The fourth step in the science of reinventing yourself, is to learn a high value skill.

In order to really progress in life, to create a new version of yourself, your going to need real, tangible skills to do it.

Its ultimately the skills that we have, the vision we hold for the future & the faith and purpose behind the two that gets you the life you want.

Now without a doubt, the most beneficial and universal skill you can master is affective and persuasive communication.

To be able to influence yourself and those around you in a way that fosters productive action that serves a greater purpose is the ultimately skill to have.

You need to learn how to write affectively.

You need to be able to articulate yourself properly.

You need to learn how to negotiate with yourself and with others.

These things are all skills, and skills that can be learned through practice.

Most people go through life just doing what they are told. They do what they think other people want them to do. Even if they wanted to do something different, they wouldn't know how to. They never learned how to communicate effectively.

Learn sales, copywriting, marketing & business.

Face rejection and be willing to fail.

As you start to build yourself to a higher and higher level, opportunities will than begin to present themselves.

The last step in the science of reinventing yourself is to get around higher level people.

They say you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

This is 100% true.

Listen to how these higher level people communicate with each other and the ideas they discuss. Notice what they talk about, notice how they speak and the words they use.

Begin to study those who are in the position you want to be in and have the life that you want to have.

If you study greatness, you will certainly become great.

“Poor people talk about other people. Middle-class people talk about things. Rich people talk about ideas.”

Now there are a few things you need to understand about getting around higher level people.

"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with"But how do you get around high level people? Here's 4 simple steps to MASSIVELY upgrade your network:

One, you need to have something of value to offer.

This is why this is the last step in the process of reinventing yourself.

People who are living successful lives are busy, they have things going on constantly.

The last thing they want is a leach, someone simply just looking for a handout.

What they are going to want is someone to assist them in there mission. Someone who is hungry for an opportunity, willing to learn and improve.

Be willing to work for free if that is what you need to do. In all reality the experience itself of working for someone ahead of you is the real compensation that will payoff in the end.

Second, you need to rid yourself of any and all ego or entitlement.

Despite what society might tell you, most people who are successful are so because they dedicated a large portion of their life to become that way and sacrificed a lot to get there.

The worst possible thing you could do when getting around people like this is to come across as a know it all, or someone who think they are better than they really are.

Have humility, be honest about where you are at, and be willing to learn as much as possible, that's what's going to get you in the right circles.

So there we have it, this is the process behind the science of reinventing yourself.

To recap, get rid of all of the anchors on your boat. Give yourself things to run toward, instead of from. Reframe the purpose and intention behind your new habits. Learn a high value skill, starting with learning to communicate effectively. Lastly, get around higher level people.

This is how you reinvent yourself.
